Who we are

The Commonground host quarterly events in NYC, each spotlighting a different artistic discipline. We are relentlessly interested in building community that breaks artists out of the echo chambers of their own fields. We are a word-of-mouth, in-person organization built on good people who approach collaboration with openness, curiosity, and generosity. Think of our events as living, intimate snapshots of the city’s creative life - gatherings that bring together artists across disciplines, stage of career, and their connections to New York City: from legacy families and alumni groups to emerging voices, cultural leaders, and independent “artistic unicorns” who have carved their own paths.

FEATURED WORK
Featured work is presented exhibit-style, where attendees can freely explore, interact and prioritize mingling. We are inspired by the creative dirty work and never shy away from the nitty-gritty of the artist’s daily routines and processes. We hope to offer a peek behind the curtain at the tedious aspects of craft and the often mundane tasks and problem solving that ultimately build to create the finished work. In exposing the community to how our peers create, we seek to discover new ways of seeing one another and new perspectives on how art is being made, how artists are thinking about and relating to their art and how that is ultimately shaping the landscape of the creative neighborhood today. By showcasing artists in this manner we hope to emphasize that artistic expression and personality are inseparable.

In providing a meeting place for New York's diverse creative bubbles we actively work to cultivate potential collaborations and communication within the city. This approach serves to enrich the cultural landscape over time, facilitating an interconnected creative environment that benefits everyone. At each of our events, you have the opportunity to relax and unwind as you listen to live music, all while enjoying a complimentary drink of your choice. The laid-back atmosphere is one that fosters authentic and easy-flowing conversations, promoting meaningful connections. At heart, we are exploring what the soul of a modern creative gathering space in today’s New York can be.
